| Christopher Reeve (1952-2004)
I was introduced to Mr. Reeve in 1995 to design a Wearable Therapy
Muscle Stimulation System to restore his prevent the all-to-familiar
muscle atrophy that accompanies spinal cord injury as well as help
maintain his health. It was a privilege to work with him and to
have a role in the management of his healthcare.
We employ Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) technology to
better the lives of our clients who are neurologically impaired.
That is just one component of the rehabilitation process. I credit
the human spirit, however, as central to pushing forward when the
odds are not in our favor. Mr. Reeve, like so many people I know
with disabilities, found hope in living in spite of his physical
challenges. He was not afraid to step into the unknown and show
us that anyone with a strong sense of vision and desire for change
can exceed expectations and set new standards for others to follow.
We sincerely regret the loss of a great partner who challenged contemporary
medical standards and who sought and shaped new paradigms for emerging
technologies and medicine.
